Welcome to the Legally Speaking podcast, Legal Tech Talk live from London, and I am joined by name, title, and organization.

01:04

Hi, I’m Elena Tsalanidis.

01:06

I am the co-founder of Deeligence.

01:09

We are an AI-powered platform that helps corporate lawyers deliver diligence projects in half the time and more accurately.

01:17

In one sentence, how would you describe the main pain point you are trying to solve in the overall world of legal?

01:24

Diligence is an absolute nightmare from the moment a lawyer gets a trove of documents in a data room through to the client report.

01:32

We make that seamless, simple and quick.

01:36

Love it.

01:36

Fantastic answer.

01:37

Okay.

01:38

And you’ve had some huge news recently and it’s great that you’ve come all the way over from Australia.

01:42

Do you want to tell us a bit about your journey and some of the recent milestones you’ve hit?

01:45

Sure.

01:46

So we’re really present in the Australia and New Zealand market.

01:50

We help corporate lawyers there.

01:52

We, my co-founder and I have both practiced and worked in the UK.

01:55

And so we’re super excited to bring our business and wins that we have from Asia Pacific here because we have heard about our UK counterparts still suffering in diligence processes.

02:06

with the administrative nightmare that exists and we can deliver lots of value and assistance, especially on the project management side as well as the artificial intelligence.

02:15

Yeah, love it.

02:16

Okay, and have you been to any sessions while you’ve been here?

02:19

Have you taken part in any sessions?

02:21

Give us a bit of your story of Legal Tech Talk.

02:24

I loved a session I attended on law firm adoption of tools.

02:28

And so this is something that keeps me up at night.

02:31

You can build an amazing solution.

02:34

Will lawyers use it?

02:35

Is it simple, intuitive, easy to use?

02:37

Our thesis is it must be or else it will become shelfware.

02:41

So I love hearing from law firm leaders around.

02:44

how they ensure that tech is really readily adopted and adopted well in a firm.

02:48

That’s what I really enjoyed.

02:49

Yeah, and I talk a lot about this.

02:50

If you confuse people, you lose people and, you know, ultimately overwhelm and then nothing happens.

02:54

You’re absolutely right.

02:55

Keep it simple.

02:55

Okay, this year’s theme of Legal Tech Talk have been law and tech, evolution, revolution, access to justice, purpose-driven law, collaboration, smart compliance.

03:06

Of those, is there one that speaks loudest to you?

03:08

And if so, why?

03:11

You threw a lot at me just then.

03:14

Would it maybe be law in tech for you?

03:16

I think it’s probably law in tech.

03:17

I think the other word that really jumped out was collaboration.

03:20

Yeah.

03:20

So especially for us.

03:22

A diligence exercise often involves a bunch of different specialist teams.

03:27

And we hear a lot that process is like herding cats.

03:30

And so making sure a team collaborates better, you know, might not be as sexy as AI, but it’s still super necessary to get work done more efficiently.

03:38

So I would say collaboration as well, Robin.

03:40

Yeah, no, I love that.

03:41

Okay.

03:41

And in terms of conferences, you’ve come all the way over from Australia to be here.

03:46

What surprised you most about Legal Ted Talk?

03:50

Oh, I thinkThe depth of insights in the sessions, the amount of talent all in one space, the networks of folks that some new friends, some old friends, it’s just such a great place to connect with people and chat about the things that are at the forefront of our industry.

04:07

And honestly, it’s super energizing.

04:09

Yeah.

04:10

I remember being a lawyer and I don’t think, I mean, that was a little while ago, but I think so much has changed for the better.

04:15

And so many people, me, other founders, law firms even are thinking about how we deliver legal services better.

04:21

And it’s something I’m so excited to be a part of.

04:24

Yeah, no, absolutely.

04:25

And it’s been an incredible experience.

04:27

And I guess if there’s some learnings you’ve taken away from here, what will they be?

04:32

Oh, so many.

04:34

Yeah.

04:36

Know your customer, know the problem that you solve, and be super judicious about how you alleviate their pain.

04:44

So we touched on design before.

04:46

I think that’s table stakes, right?

04:48

So we’re alliPhone native users, we all expect beautiful design, a product that just radically changes your life.

04:56

And so that’s the sorts of things that I think about in the product that we have.

05:00

that we deliver for our customers.

05:01

How do we make this experience so seamless, so beautiful?

05:04

And so, yeah, it’s an exciting time for sure.

05:07

Yeah, no, absolutely.

05:09

And let’s fast forward five years.

05:10

I know it’s a long time, particularly in the AI tech world that we live, but what will clients expect from legal services that they don’t get today in five years time?

05:19

Sure.

05:19

So I can speak about the context around legal due diligence, because it’s probably the thing that I know most.

05:26

I think in five years time, and this is a bit of a hot take,I don’t think that due diligence will be delivered in the same way that it is delivered now.

05:34

I think it is a race to the bottom.

05:36

It’s a relatively non-differentiated exercise.

05:40

So it’s, for want of a better word, box-ticking exercise.

05:44

It’s important.

05:45

It needs to happen.

05:46

But there is a lot of efficiencies to be made.

05:48

And so I think in five years, you’re going to see very, very light touch, if not no lawyer involvement in due diligence.

05:56

We will have systems and AI processto improve that process.

06:00

And so I am cautiously optimistic that this tech like ours and the evolution of AI will drastically revolutionize due diligence.

06:11

And that is a great way to perhaps close on what is exciting times, I think, over the coming years.

06:16

And it’s great that you’re coming to places like this.

06:19

But if you want to know more about your company or get in touch with you, are there any special websites or social media handles?

06:25
