01:04
Oh my gosh.
01:06
I wasn’t expecting that one.
01:07
You weren’t expecting that, they do get harder.
01:14
That’s hilarious.
01:14
Name, Holly Cope.
01:16
Title.
01:18
more than a lawyer podcast host.
01:20
Absolutely are, absolutely.
01:22
And you have a fantastic show and we’ve had the benefit of been on each other’s shows a couple of times now, which is great.
01:29
Let’s talk about in one sentence, what’s one problem you’re trying to solve within the world of legal?
01:35
Rob, that is a tricky question.
01:37
Where do you start?
01:38
Where do you start?
01:39
Where do you start?
01:40
There’s a long list of problems.
01:42
Okay, I would say if I was to break it down to one main umbrella type thing, I would say awareness.
01:49
It’s a lack of awareness in the legal industry in terms of like the future, AI, culture, well-being, loads of different topics, all the topics I speak about on my podcast and what you speak about as well.
02:02
And I think awareness is just a key factor.
02:04
Like mygoal is to, through conversations, have conversations that people aren’t having so that people like law students, lawyers, people transforming the legal industry so that they can have an insight into what other people are thinking, different perspectives, and overall just awareness of what’s going on in the industry so that we can all help each other transform the industry as a whole.
02:31
Yeah, and obviously that’s what a huge part of this event and conference is allabout.
02:35
Yeah.
02:36
Okay, you’re very much in the world of legal tech.
02:38
You know a thing or so about legal tech.
02:40
What’s one assumption you think people still get wrong when it comes to legal tech?
02:44
Could you clarify that slightly?
02:46
So certain people may think that they can go on TrackGPT and it can absolutely write in the best in class contract and it’s completely good to use and there won’t be any problems, nothing else.
02:56
It’s the best thing since sliced bread.
02:57
So do you think there is one particular assumption that people have about legal tech that they’re still getting wrong from your ownexperience or from people you’ve been meeting or from what you’re seeing in the industry?
03:08
Okay, so is this assumptions from like the general public or from lawyers or just…
03:13
Well, it could be from whichever angle you like to take it.
03:15
Okay, thanks Rob.
03:18
Wherever you would like.
03:21
Okay, what I would say is there is an assumption that all technology, all AI is, I guess, regulated and compliant.
03:33
Whereas a lot of, for example, you know the note-taking software that people use on, I don’t know, Zoom calls and things like this, some of it isn’t compliant with UK laws because it’s been invented in the US, for example, and it’s not compliant.
03:49
So I think this is an assumption that, oh, we can just use AI and technology, but it’s like, okay, if you’re a lawyer and you’re working in a highly regulated profession, or even accountants or highly regulated industries, you really need to check that what you’re using is compliant.
04:06
So I think that’s an assumption that you can just use whatever and we’ll just go with technology, you know?
04:10
Yeah, no, really well said, yeah.
04:11
And I think you gave a really basic example about how so many people are probably doing that and probably not thinking about actually some of the repercussions you could have.
04:19
particularly if you’re in a regulated industry, very sensitive information and discussions.
04:23
Okay, are you doing any sessions here at Legal Tech Talk?
04:26
If so, can you tell us about them and what people can expect?
04:29
Yeah, so I’m doing live kind of like street style interviews.
04:33
We just did one together.
04:34
We did, lots of fun, loved it.
04:36
Yeah, super fun.
04:37
I’m doing that, but I’m also going to be on stage tomorrow, Friday, with William Peake, and I think it’s going to be, I’m wanting it to be more of a fun vibe, because he’s a funny guy.
04:51
Yeah, he’s witty.
04:51
Yeah, yeah, yeah, as you mentioned, he used to be a comedian, so I’m wanting it to be valuable, but also entertaining.
04:59
andpeople.
05:00
So we’re going to talk about how he became LinkedIn famous, how he’s built a personal brand, how he’s made Harney’s super well-known now through his literal building of his brand on LinkedIn.
05:11
So that’s what we’re going to be covering.
05:13
It’s going to be fun.
05:13
Yeah, it’s going to be super fun and I’m looking forward to it, that’s for sure.
05:16
Okay, what’s been your, we were both here last year, we have benefited coming for the first year.
05:21
What’s been your biggest surprise of Legal Tech Talk 2025?
05:24
Ooh,Biggest surprise?
05:27
I would say the fact that it’s grown so much and transformed so much, you knowWhen I came in, I was expecting something amazing, but I couldn’t actually believe how amazing it was, you knowWith the multiple stages, it looked so cool.
05:40
It doesn’t look like a corporate event.
05:42
It’s more like, I can’t even describe it, like, in parts it’s like you’re in a club or something, you know?
05:50
But yeah, it’s so cool.
05:51
I think I’m just overall really impressed with how it’s turned out and alsothe quality of the people that are here, right?
05:57
Yeah, no, it’s insane.
05:59
It’s really, really good.
06:00
There’s pretty much everyone who’s doing great, innovative things or pushing forwards is absolutely here.
06:05
Okay, let’s fast forward five years.
06:07
Say it’s 2030.
06:08
What do you hope will be finally fixed within law?
06:13
Rob, how did you come up with these questions?
06:15
It’s so hard.
06:16
Rob, speaking from your own point of view, because you can see it from many sides, yeah, is there one thing that is a bugbear for you that you would like to see fixed?
06:24
mindset.
06:26
Will it change in five years?
06:29
Probably not.
06:30
I think the mindset in law, without completely criticizing the whole industry, is slightly archaic.
06:39
very traditional, which is absolutely fine because it’s a traditional industry, but I feel like the mindset needs to change in terms of embracing technology, in terms of embracing culture changes and business shifts within the legal sector as a result of AI.
06:56
So I really do believe that the mindset needs to change, and I hope it will change in the next five years, even just slowly, you know, just getting into that.
07:06
I’m sure it will because people like you are putting out goodevents like this, so many great communities, so many people that are pushing for change and hopefully encouraging people to have more of a growth mindset perhaps than a closed mindset.
07:18
Okay, before you go, what’s been your biggest aha moment thus far of Legal Tech Talk?
07:21
Is there anyone new that you’ve met or has there been some people that you’ve met online that you’ve had an opportunity to meet in person that you maybe haven’t done or is there an organization here that you collaborated with but finally got to meet?
07:32
Yeah, anything like that you maybe sparked some interest or thoughts?
07:37
I mean, to be honest, I’ve had so many really interesting conversations with different people about, I’ve been asking them a lot about AI because for me it’s, I mean, you’ve spoken to Philip Young, first AI driven law firm to be authorised in England and Wales.
07:52
For me, that’s literally wild.
07:55
And I wasn’t expecting it to, I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t expecting it to happen this year.
07:58
No.
07:58
But it did.
08:00
Yeah, yeah, it did.
08:01
So this has completely changed my mind in terms of, oh my gosh, AI is here, the futureis here.
08:07
And so I’m wanting to have more of these conversations to get perspectives from different people.
08:11
So I think every time I’ve spoken to someone, I’ve asked them about, okay, what do you think about AI?
08:16
So probably it’s been aha moments, plural, because it’s been like getting different perspectives from different people of different generations and different positions within law firms and understanding what they think.
08:28
I think that’s a game changer because I’m like, whoa, I didn’t know that you thought like that, you know?
08:34
Exactly.
08:34
And that’s the benefit of coming to things like this.
08:36
Meet so many different people from different backgrounds, different experiences, and so much more.
08:40
So, Holly, before I let you go, where can people go to find out more about your amazing podcasts and great work you’re getting up to?
08:46
Feel free to share any social media handles or any websites we’ll share them in this episode for you too.
08:50
Thanks, Rob.
08:53
So yeah, the podcast is more than a lawyer.
08:55
It’s on Spotify, Apple, all the usual places like yours.
08:58
And the best place to find me is LinkedIn.
09:00
That’s where I hang out.
09:00
I don’t really hang out anywhere else, although I know you’ve got me on Instagram, but you’re special.
09:06
So you see all my travel.
09:08
Yeah, I do indeed.
09:09
And so look, so good to do this again in person.
09:12
